Boris Pasternak was born in Moscow, Russia in 1890. His father was a painter/illustrator for Tolstoy's works and his mother was a well known concert pianist. Boris was educated in a German Gymnasium in Moscow and later went to the University of Moscow. He was into music for six years, from 1904 to 1910, because of a composer named Scriabin. In 1912 he was not interested in music anymore so he went to the University of Marburg, Germany. There he took Philosophy, but after 4 months and a trip to Italy he went back to Russia where he would work on literature the rest of his life. He wrote many books and at first didn't get much acknowledgement, but later got popularity within the Russians and even the Italians. Pasternak is kind of related to Chris because he didn't really like one subject to live of off. He tried Music, Philosophy, and then finally settled with literature probably because literature can be easily done with imagination. In the paragraph from his book "Doctor Zhivago" it says the one must have faith and the equipment to survive and follow their dreams. Also it says that one needs help from others to succeed in most things. He is kind of the opposite of Chris when it comes to following dreams because he encourages the use of equipment and other people. Chris didn't want that when he followed his dream to going to Alaska. He lived in the wild all by himself without proper equipment(ex. backup food supply) and he didn't get any help from other people so some days he didn't even eat anything. Pasternak died on May 30, 1960 he was around 70 years old.
